If you smell gas

Do this before anything else

Four steps, in this order, then call Peter. If the smell is strong, call the gas network’s leak line on 131 909 first.

No switches, no flames.

Don’t use light switches, phones or anything that could spark inside the house. Put out any flames and turn off appliances.

2
Turn off the gas at the meter.

Only if you can reach it safely. The valve is usually a lever that turns a quarter turn to sit across the pipe.

Why it matters who does it

Gas work needs a licensed gas fitter

In NSW, gas work has to be done by a licensed gas fitter. It’s a safety issue first, and it also matters for your insurance. When Peter finishes a gas job, it’s tested before it’s handed back.

Because Peter is licensed for plumbing and gas, a gas hot water replacement or a cooktop swap in a renovation is one visit and one person, not two trades to coordinate.

One licence, two trades

Peter holds NSW licence 464374C, which covers plumbing, drainage, gas fitting and roofing, with public liability insurance. Gas and water work is done by the same person.

Have this ready and we can usually quote on the spot
