Peter is the most trusted and respected plumber in the area. Over my 20+ years experience as well as a Principal real estate owner; Trust & Service is everything, last week my mother called me urgently needing a plumber, I called Peter & within 15min he was at my mothers home and fixed the problem. My mother felt safe & at ease as Peter explained everything & rectified the issue. Cleaning up on completion, can’t recommend more highly.

Your neighbourhood plumber

The plumber in Pymble walks towards a signwritten ute parked outside a brick home

Pymble is really two suburbs. Along the line and the highway it’s large, established homes on deep, leafy blocks, many of them Federation or interwar. Over the hill in West Pymble it’s a later generation of family homes on steep, bushy blocks that run down towards the Lane Cove River. Peter works in both, and the plumbing is different enough that it helps to know which one you’re calling from.

Along the line it’s the familiar story of original clay sewer pipe, big trees and galvanised water pipe at the end of its life. In West Pymble the sloping sites make stormwater the bigger issue, with long sewer runs to the street and surface water that needs managing after every heavy rain.

What we see most in Pymble

Stormwater on sloping blocks.

Surface water, overflowing downpipes and pits after heavy rain, especially on the steep sites of West Pymble.

Long sewer runs to the street.

Deep blocks mean long original drain lines, with plenty of joints for roots from established gardens to get into.

Older homes, older plumbing.

Galvanised water pipe losing pressure, original fixtures, and hot water systems sized for another era.

About the suburb

Plumbing in Pymble

Pymble sits on the Pacific Highway and the North Shore rail line between Gordon and Turramurra, in Ku-ring-gai Council. The suburb splits into Pymble, along the line, and West Pymble, over the ridge towards the Lane Cove River, and the two have noticeably different housing. Both are leafy, both are hilly, and both keep a maintenance plumber busy.

The established homes along the line were plumbed with clay sewer pipe, joined every metre, and the trees in Pymble’s gardens and streets have had decades to find those joints. Root blockages that come back every few months are the most common repeat call we get here. The fix is rarely just another clear. A camera inspection shows how far the roots have got and whether a section is worth relining before it blocks the next time.

In West Pymble the blocks are steep, and a lot of our calls after heavy rain are about stormwater: water pooling where it shouldn’t, downpipes overflowing, pits full of leaves and damp coming through at ground level. On a sloping block, stormwater has to be managed, not just moved along. The sewer runs are long too, so a blockage can be a fair way from the house.

Inside, older galvanised water pipe corrodes from the inside out. The signs are a slow loss of pressure, discoloured water first thing in the morning and the occasional pinhole leak. Hot water systems in the older homes are often sized for the household that lived there decades ago, and plenty are at the end of their life.

Peter lives in Gordon, one suburb along, so Pymble is home turf. The same trees, the same hills and the same pipes.

Blocked drains in Pymble

Sink not draining, toilet backing up, the same blockage back again a month later. Blocked drains are the job we’re called to most in Pymble, and on these deep, hilly blocks the cause is usually roots in a long run of original clay sewer pipe. We clear it, then put a camera down the line to show you why it blocked, so it doesn’t keep happening.

How a blocked drain job runs
01
Diagnose first.

We ask what’s been happening and check where the blockage sits before we start. Flushing the toilet and seeing water come up in the shower or an outside gully tells us the main line is blocked, not just one fixture.

02
Clear it.

Depending on the blockage, that’s an electric drain machine or a high-pressure jetter that scours the pipe walls clean, roots included.

03
Look inside.

A CCTV drain camera shows what caused it: roots, a cracked pipe, a sag, or just years of build-up. You see the footage too.

04
Fix the cause.

If the pipe is damaged, we explain your options, including pipe relining where it suits, so you’re not paying for the same clear every few months.

Signs your Pymble drain is starting to block
Blocked drain questions from Pymble

Why does my drain keep blocking?
In Pymble it’s usually tree roots in the original clay sewer line, and on a long run down to the street there can be more than one entry point. Sometimes it’s a cracked or sagging section. A camera inspection tells us which, so we fix the cause rather than clearing the same blockage again.

Can you clear it without digging up the garden?
Nearly always. Jetting and the drain machine work from the existing access points, and relining repairs a damaged section from the inside without a trench.

Are supermarket drain chemicals worth trying?
We’d skip them. They rarely clear a real blockage, they can damage older pipes, and they make the drain unsafe to work on when we arrive.

Hot water repairs and replacement in Pymble

No hot water, not enough of it, or a tank that’s started to leak. We repair and install gas, electric and solar hot water systems across Pymble and West Pymble, and because Peter is a licensed gas fitter as well as a plumber, there’s no second trade to book for a gas unit. We’ll tell you straight whether yours is worth fixing.

How a hot water job runs
01
We check the unit.

Age, condition, what’s failed and what’s likely to fail next. Have the brand and model handy, or send a photo of the sticker.

02
We tell you if it's worth repairing.

A thermostat, element, valve or thermocouple on a sound tank is usually worth fixing. A leaking tank isn’t; tanks can’t be patched.

03
If you replace, we size it properly.

The right type and capacity for your household, not just a like-for-like swap. Old unit removed, new one fitted tidily, area cleaned up.

What we see with hot water in Pymble
Hot water questions from Pymble

Is a leaking hot water system urgent?
A small drip from the relief valve usually isn’t. Water pooling around the base of the tank is, because it won’t get better and can cause water damage. If it’s leaking heavily, turn the cold water off at the isolation valve on the inlet pipe and call us.

Storage or continuous flow?
It depends on what utilities are available and what matters more to you: efficiency, which favours continuous flow, or hot water that keeps coming if the power fails, which favours storage. Peter will talk you through both before you decide.

Do you install gas hot water?
Yes. Storage and continuous flow, repairs, servicing and replacement, all by a licensed gas fitter.

24/7 emergency plumber in Pymble

Burst pipe, sewage coming up, water through the ceiling, a smell of gas. Call 0403 404 307 any time, day or night, weekends and public holidays, and you’ll speak to Peter, the plumber who’ll come out. Pymble is next door to Gordon, where Peter lives, so an emergency here is a few minutes away, not a trip across Sydney.

While you wait, do this
01
Turn off the water at the mains.

Usually in a box near the front boundary. On a steep West Pymble block it can be well below the house, near the street, so it’s worth finding before you need it. Turn clockwise until it stops.

02
Isolate the hot water unit.

Electric: switch it off at the switchboard. Gas: turn the unit to off or pilot.

03
Keep clear of electrics.

If water is near power points or lights, switch off at the switchboard if it’s safe to reach. Don’t touch anything wet.

04
Smell gas?

Don’t use switches or flames. Turn off the gas at the meter if you can, get everyone outside, and call. If the smell is strong, call 000 first.

What Pymble customers say

How we work in your home

The same standard on every Pymble job

The way we work isn’t down to one person having a good day. It’s a set standard: how we answer the phone, how we quote, how we behave in your home and how we leave it. Whoever comes to your door, you get the same care, the same straight answers and the same clean finish.

If something's not right after we've left, call Peter. It gets sorted.

About us

A local plumber for Pymble, not a franchise

Peter Pan Plumbing is one licensed plumber and gas fitter, based in Gordon and working across the Upper and Lower North Shore. Peter has done his share of construction work, but maintenance is where he wants to be: the drain that keeps blocking, the leak nobody can find, the hot water that’s given up on a Sunday. He likes working out what’s actually going on and fixing it properly.

When you call, you get Peter. He’ll talk you through it, give you a straight answer, and he’s the one who turns up and finishes the job.
